The Building People Interior Designer II in Washington, District Of Columbia

The Building People has a position for a full-time Interior Architect in a prominent federal agency in the Washington, DC area. The successful candidate will have a solid background in all aspects of interior design and related construction planning and development. The team is actively involved in small and large project design development, construction document preparation and project execution of unique projects. This position requires travel in the Continental United States.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provides leadership developing complex solutions for planning, architectural and interior designs

  • Plans, designs, reviews and coordinates complex engineering or design tasks in support of project accomplishment

  • Applies engineering skills and abilities to complete necessary calculations to determine feasibility or different design options

  • Provides space utilization planning, functional relationships, office and furniture layouts, and design finish options

  • Present data and plans to all stakeholders– both in person and via email, phone and other means of communication media.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • 4 years minimum experience in commercial Interior design for tenant improvements, restacking and interior build out of new and existing spaces

  • Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other construction documents for construction projects.

  • Ability to create architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other construction documents for construction projects

  • Familiarity with commercial office furniture lines and have a working knowledge of both casegoods and systems furniture specification.

  • Working knowledge of space planning and interior design for commercial/government office space. Working knowledge of selection of interior finishes and materials.

  • Ability to carry on business conversations with decision makers and to interact and cooperate with all stakeholders.

  • Self-motivated, able to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment, both individually and as a team player. Excellent quantitative, analytic, and process mapping skills.

  • Expertise with AutoCAD 2015 or higher.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software – Project, Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook.

  • Proficient in SmartSheets software.

  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task and respond in quick time frames.

  • Successful completion of the NCIDQ or NCARB certifications.

  • Background in commercial or Federal government office planning

Preferred Experience

  • Large commercial office space planning

  • Federal agency experience

Required Education

  • A minimum of a BS/BA architecture/interior design degree or Masters in Architecture Certified Interior Designer will also be considered

  • Masters in architecture
