Summary:

The MOT (Assistant Superintendent) is responsible for working with the MOT Manager and Superintendent to oversee and manage traffic control for the duration of the construction project. This individual has to ensure that FMCC meets all required governmental requirements for safe movement of traffic specified on the plans and also oversees the maintenance of traffic including all facilities, devices, and operations as required for safety and convenience of the public within the work zone.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and oversee the crews in completing the marking and identification of construction zones and areas for striping, lane closures, and installation of barrier walls,
  • Organize relocation of traffic and establishment of required traffic patterns,
  • Responsible for maintaining in like new condition and the cleaning of all existing and temporary traffic signs and any other traffic control devices,
  • Ability to foresee road way hazards prior to opening road way to traffic safely,
  • Delegates assignments to flaggers and monitors their performance,
  • Work with traffic control specialist trainees enrolled in government OJT Program,
  • Communicates and collaborates with engineers and project managers to assure successful completion of program and accuracy of training and time records,
  • Coordinates and support MOT operations with inspectors, engineers, project superintendent, and project foremen,
  • Implementation of the projects traffic control plan using the proper specifications and guidelines,
  • Possess oversight and authority regarding the projects maintenance of traffic implementation plans,
  • Coordinates with Superintendents to ensure work crews depart roadway in a timely fashion, as identified on the project plans,
  • Reviews daily work zone reports for completeness and accuracy,
  • Coordinates and attends project meetings with clients, public officials, engineers, planners and transportation systems,
  • Generate inspections during and immediately after adverse weather conditions to ensure that the traffic control devices are clean, undamaged, and in their proper position,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidate should have no less than 5 years experience in Construction and a strong desire to perform maintenance of traffic duties,
  • Must be OSHA 10 trained,
  • Must be OSHA 30 trained,
  • Must be MOT certified in Maryland and Virginia,
  • Ability to work independently and determine solutions with limited guidance,
  • Ability to manage work flow in a fast-paced environment,
  • Ability to handle scheduling issues as they arise,
  • Excellent customer service skills,
  • Possess Flagger certification,
  • Superior communication skills,
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills,
  • Possess a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office,
  • Valid drivers license,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working onditions:

  • This jobmay require you to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist. In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job. This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • This job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts).
  • This job requires the ability to perform essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions. These may include but are not limited to: Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
