Position Location: This position is hybrid. Hybrid positions combine regular in-person presence at our Washington, DC office with the option of at least two days of remote work each week.

Responsibilities

CUE is seeking a Senior Research Analyst (SRA) to support the Echidna Global Scholars Program, which seeks to catalyze and amplify the impact of local leaders working to advance gender equality in and through education across the Global South. In collaboration with the Deputy Director and Senior Fellow and the gender equality in and through education team within CUE, the SRA’s main responsibilities will be to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Echidna Global Scholars Program, as well as engage in collaborative research on gender equality and education with CUE partners around the world. The SRA will work closely with visiting and alumni scholars, supporting all stages of research related to gender transformative education policies and practices, including data collection and analysis, report writing and dissemination. The SRA is expected to deliver high quality output in a timely manner, assist in the organization and facilitation of meetings, workshops and events, and provide administrative assistance as needed.

Research Analysis (65%)

  • Supports research projects on gender transformative education, from the development of conceptual frameworks and methodological proposals to data collection and analysis to the writing, publication, and dissemination of findings.

  • Researches, reviews, compiles, and processes data and information on global gender-related education policy issues and themes related to the work of the EGSP and its associated research projects.

  • Supports drafting, editing, fact checking, and proofreading of briefing documents, project reports, concept notes, and other internal and external written research documents, as well as unpublished materials prepared for and as part of the work of the EGSP.

  • Creates tables, graphs, presentations, and other data visualizations that clearly communicate research findings.

  • Writes high quality drafts of working papers, policy briefs, and presentations based on the research.

  • Coordinates the design and implementation of project monitoring and evaluation frameworks, including tracking, synthesis, analysis, and evaluation of information from/of the EGSP.

  • Provides suggestions and content for blogs and other communications pieces; contributes to communications pieces with Echidna Global Scholars, members of the gender equality in and through education team, and others at CUE/Brookings as appropriate.

  • Other research assistance duties as assigned.

    Engagement Coordination (35%)

  • Partners with Deputy Director and Senior Fellow in the development and implementation of content for the EGSP (fellowship and alumni network).

  • Coordinates the planning, execution, and follow-up related to virtual and/or in-person meetings, workshops, and conferences related to the EGSP; maintains calendar of these engagement activities and coordinates internal program communications related to EGSP engagement activities.

  • Co-designs and facilitates workshops related to research, evidence literacy, and strategic policy impact.

  • Coordinates outreach, partnerships, and collaborations with researchers, practitioners, and policy actors related to the EGSP.

  • Participates in learning and dissemination spaces (may involve international travel).

  • Contributes to grant-writing and donor stewardship activities, in coordination with program staff and scholars.

  • Works with designers and communications team on preparation of reports, presentations, and other project communication and engagement pieces.

  • Other engagement coordination duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Education, Sociology, Political Science, Global or International Development, International Affairs, or related social science field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Strong academic record. Minimum three years of work experience supporting qualitative and/or quantitative research in an academic, think-tank, government, or NGO environment. Experience with policy-oriented research and participatory, collaborative, feminist and/or decolonial approaches to research especially encouraged to apply. Teaching experience (formal or nonformal settings) and experience living, working and/or studying in the Global South is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements

Successful candidate should be creative, proactive and open to engaging in deep and transparent research relationships with others. Outstanding synthesis, analysis and policy-oriented writing skills. Must have capacity to connect details and data and bring them to a larger conversation as well as experience making data and research understandable and responsive to decisionmaker and policymaker audiences. Knowledge of and keen interest in gender equality, international development, and global education issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading. Cooperative attitude, flexibility, and ability to work in a team as well as independently, work well under pressure, and meet multiple deadlines in a timely manner within a fast-paced work environment. The successful candidate will exhibit strong inter-personal abilities and cultural capacity in working with diverse groups of practitioners, researchers, and policy makers from multiple country contexts. Commitment to recognizing and elevating the diversity of knowledge of different people, communicating effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and acknowledging and working to disrupt traditional power dynamics in the field of international development. Fluency in English is required. Fluency in another language is strongly preferred.
