Transportation Engineering Consultant

Location:

Arlington, VA

Remote U.S.

ICF is seeking a Transportation Engineering Consultant to lead and support projects related to transportation asset management, sustainability, and lifecycle analysis. The position will require knowledge of pavements, materials, construction, and maintenance issues related to environmental performance scenario modeling, decarbonization strategies, GHG analysis in transportation planning, and familiarity with environmental product declarations . Work may include analysis of strategies to reduce emissions from a variety of transportation sources, analysis of the costs and benefits of emission reduction strategies, development of policy and program recommendations to support sustainability programs and projects, research on industry trends, using existing analysis approaches and developing custom approaches to meet client needs, writing reports, and developing presentations.

Existing knowledge of and experience working with transportation sector engineering, emission reduction, and/or decarbonization programs is essential.

The successful candidate will also have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Impacts of alternative fuels

  • Incorporation of emission reduction and other sustainability objectives into long-range transportation plans

  • Emissions analysis and scenario modeling

  • Technology feasibility assessment

  • Co-benefits of criteria pollutant and greenhouse gas emission reduction strategies

  • Pavements, materials, construction, transportation asset management, or related areas

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading or supporting analyses of strategies and scenarios to reduce transportation sector greenhouse gas and criteria pollutant emissions.

  • Conducting research and interpreting published research.

  • Lifecycle analysis and interpretation of materials and uses.

  • Supporting infrastructure resiliency analyses for state and federal clients.

  • Preparing research and technical reports, case studies, factsheets, briefs, memoranda, and other documentation.

  • Providing technology deployment, transfer, and implementation support.

  • Coordinating, organizing, and facilitating in-person or virtual meetings with clients and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation, civil, or environmental engineering, or related field, or a minimum 5+ years of demonstrated professional work experience. "OR" Master's degree in transportation, civil, or environmental engineering, or related field, plus 2+ years or more years of relevant professional work experience.

  • Understanding of lifecycle analysis for greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Technical knowledge in pavements, materials, construction, transportation asset management, or related engineering disciplines.

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including in Microsoft applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and web conferencing systems (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Adobe Connect).

  • Experience in data analysis, statistics, and visualization.

  • Skilled with programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, SAS, STATA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with transportation sector greenhouse gas and/or criteria pollutant emission inventory and mitigation measure analysis.

  • Technical knowledge in pavements, materials, construction, transportation asset management, or related engineering disciplines.

  • Knowledge of environmental product declaration (EPD) programs.

  • Understanding of lifecycle analysis for greenhouse gas emissions.

Additional Professional Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation, and technical writing skills, and an ability to communicate ideas effectively.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience prioritizing and tracking multiple efforts and deliverables, and ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Strong attention to detail, and an ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members.

  • Flexibility and sound business ethics.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$69,862.00 - $118,765.00
