This experienced Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a group of reliability engineers in design for reliability evaluation of our Energy Technology products including power converters, load management modules, grid interfacing switches, and energy storage devices. This manager would be responsible for honing the Design for Reliability process, setting reliability goals, monitoring & executing reliability demonstration tests. This person is expected to drive a group of engineers to oversee component and system level validation, facilitate root cause analysis, and develop test methods to evaluate design robustness and reliability.

This position will report to the Engineering Director. We will consider relocation for this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of Reliability engineers with various experience to achieve standardized goals and targets for various energy technology products for Generac.

  • Develop, motivate and drive a group of high functioning engineers to excel in their area of expertise.

  • Periodically assess talent and foster talent acquisition practices and performance manage specialized engineering group.

  • Review and refresh the Design for Reliability (DfR) process for Generac Energy Technology (ET) products.

  • Develop a process for defining component and system reliability targets.

  • Drive the ET Engineering Team to meet Generac’s high product performance and reliability standards.

  • Develop component and system level reliability demonstration test procedures.

  • Gain a deep understanding of the operating environment and performance requirements for ET products.

  • Drive Validation Excellence and lead other team members to a high standard by closely monitoring their design verification and validation plans, helping, and escalating any concerns to leadership.

  • Create detailed reports documenting all findings and conclusions.

  • Provide input during Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEAs, and Design Reviews.

  • Ensure that test plans address requirements in all applicable standards (UL, IEC, IEEE, CE, UN, etc.).

  • Support and drive root cause analysis and resolution of issues found during testing.

  • Manage third party resources (external labs, consultants, etc.) to fulfill delegated work packages including statement of work development, scope management, commercial agreements, and Engineering reports.

  • Support product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).

  • Assist the leaders with budgeting and planning as needed.

  • Mentor and teach less experienced engineers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree in Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.

  • 12+ years of relevant work experience that is aligned with the “Essential Duties and Responsibilities captured above”.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Electronics, or related discipline.

  • Experience developing and/or validating power electronic products.

  • Experience with renewable energy products .

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience testing complex electronic modules.

  • Experience with reliability failure modes of technologies involving power electronics and failure mechanisms with respect to reliability.

  • Very good understanding of relevant test standards (IEEE, JEDEC, IEC etc.).

  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services, and processes.

  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems.

  • Statistical analysis knowledge to assess reliability risk based on design and application.

  • Excellent oral and written communication.

  • Strong decision-making skills.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
