Platte River Power Authority Maintenance Technician (II Or III) in Wellington, Colorado

Platte River is seeking an experienced industrial mechanic to join the team at our Rawhide Energy Station as a level II or level III maintenance technician. This is an onsite position in Wellington, CO that is regularly scheduled to work Monday through Thursday, 6:30 am - 5:00 pm, and also works nights, weekends and overtime as needed (approximately 200 hours per year - actual may vary). The duties of the maintenance technician include maintenance of Rawhide's Unit 1 coal unit and existing onsite resources.

Our ideal candidate and newest member of this maintenance team is a team player who takes ownership of and pride in producing high-quality work. Certified pipe welders or machinists qualify for an adder of 5% to base pay (testing required). This skillset is not required to be considered for this position; a maintenance technician who demonstrates aptitude and initiative for learning can develop this skill at a later time.


Essential duties and responsibilities

The below duties and responsibilities are listed for placement at level II, and apply to both level II and III technician: - Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization - Partners with other crew to improve organizational effectiveness by identifying strategies to resolve problems, improve team performance and effectiveness and develop people strategies that support the organization's needs - Performs mechanical repairs on boilers, turbines, pumps, fans, combustion turbines, motors, valves, pollution control equipment, as well as coal, ash, and natural gas handling equipment - Accurately documents work procedures, parts used, time used, and tasks performed using computer-based maintenance systems - Clearly communicates equipment status to peers, supervisors, and management - Researches and obtains detailed equipment information to diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints/pipe and instrumentation diagram repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary - Effectively communicates highly technical information using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication - Repair and fabricate parts using shop tools

Additional responsibility assigned to level III technician: - The ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Other functions - May perform welding with stick, TIG, and MIG method, as needed - Works in tight spaces, on ladders or elevated platforms and in inclement conditions, as needed - Practices safety awareness and complies with safety standards set forth by the industry and the organization - Performs other duties as assigned

Additional functions for level III technician: - Demonstrates leadership responsibilities such as project management and fills in for the supervisor and planner as requested - Performs advanced level system maintenance and troubleshooting

Knowledge, skills and abilities - Effective verbal and written communication skills - Ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical prints and technical manuals - Ability to safely work around industrial equipment - Knowledgeable of industry safety procedures and protocol - Experience in rigging, and overhead crane operations - Ability to successfully complete machinery alignment activities - Strong computer, math, reading, and writing skills - Ability to work weekends, nights, and overtime as assigned - Initiative to improve knowledge and skills through self-study - Ability to create and maintain positive professional relationships with all personnel

Minimum requirements for level II placement: - Seven or more years of work experience in large industrial machinery troubleshooting, maintenance and repair (e.g., completion of mechanic's apprenticeship program or 5 years of equivalent experience, plus two years of journey-level mechanic experience) - Completion of a high school diploma or GED - Current valid driver' license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy and be subject to random drug screening under DOT requirements as a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver

Additional requirements for level III placement: - Ten or more years of work experience in large industrial machinery troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair

Preferred certification and experience for both levels: - Knowledge of combustion turbines and associated equipment - Welder certification for Section IX of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code - Experience as a machinist using manually operated lathes, milling machines and surface grinders

Pay Maintenance Technician II: $37.34 to $50.41 per hour* Maintenance Technician III: $41.10 to $55.51 per hour*

*Additional 5% eligibility if certified pipe welder or machinist (testing required)
