Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory, Mechanical Civil Engineering (MCE) group is looking for a mechanical engineer to be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of our site critical systems. MCE is part of the Bettis Infrastructure and Maintenance Engineering department at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory. Engineers are responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and equipment of our site critical systems. You will be responsible for performing system evaluations, determining the required system maintenance, and recommending and implementing improvements. This position will require working closely with various operations and stakeholder groups including the operations and maintenance craft personnel, subcontractors, and lab technicians to troubleshoot problems in the field, develop work packages, and follow the performance of the work. MCE group is cognizant over the mechanical site system utilities at the laboratory. These systems and equipment include circulating water, city water, compressed air, central (steam) heating plant, HVAC systems, chillers, and cooling towers. Strong communication skills will be necessary as the engineer will be responsible to coordinate and resolve any issues with the personnel affected by the work evolutions that are planned. Infrastructure and Maintenance Engineer Responsibilities: Planning and coordinating infrastructure and equipment maintenance schedules and activities. Gathering and analyzing data, blueprints, and reports. Determining facility and equipment specifications. Analyzing project costs and preparing budgets. Designing and overseeing the maintenance, repairs, and improvements of facility systems. Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and health and safety standards. Evaluating operational systems and facility infrastructure to ascertain and improve operational efficiencies.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 is preferred, with a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering Experience working with any mechanical utilities and/or mechanical building systems. Experience with AutoCAD and MS Office. Strong interpersonal and teaming skills to interact with a wide variety of technicians, engineers, and oversight personnel. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks concurrently. Knowledge of building process and construction principles. Knowledge of relevant regulations and building codes. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Project management skills.

Pay Range $82,400 - $128,800 annually Note the salary information provided above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
