Job Description

Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA) distributes a wide range of medical and surgical devices used to diagnose and treat diseases. OCA needs to educate health care providers on the safe and effective, on label use of those products through Olympus Continuum courses, workshops and training events.

This position is responsible for using clinical and operational expertise to develop and deliver education related to the safe and effective use of Olympus products and to utilize and manage Olympus’ brand new Continuum Training & Education Center to ensure the department utilizes the training lab to its full potential. 50% of the role will be responsible for the day to day operations of Olympus’ new training and education lab located in Westborough, MA and the other 50% of the role will be responsible for using clinical expertise to develop and deliver educational curriculum related to the safe and effective use of Olympus products.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the overall administration of Olympus’s Training and Education Center including offering outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers, developing and maintaining effective relationships through effective and timely communication and taking initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.

  • Lead the facilitation of digital/virtual learning solutions at the Westborough Lab. Facilitate and take part in Global Olympus Continuum discussions around training facilities and new and upcoming virtual training solutions.

  • Work with internal EH&S and building maintenance to ensure all applicable environmental and local laws and standards are met at all times.

  • Develop internal processes and control documents for utilization of the lab by internal departments and any external parties, as well as maintaining Lab records, compliance with safety, and biohazard guidelines.

  • Establish short and long term goals for the Olympus Continuum Training & Education Center, including plans for non-Olympus programs, such as science education for grade school children or other efforts that support the local community.

  • Manage the use and identification of models and vendors used for training, and coordinate supplies and equipment necessary to operate training lab, including shipping/receiving and procurement Curriculum Development / Educator:

  • Responsible for identifying unmet educational needs across the assigned business unit through collaboration with internal/external stakeholders to propose and develop new courses, materials, or other needs.

  • Support the development of evidence-based on-site/online training curricula for procedure and safe &effective use training with Olympus products in close cooperation with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Support aligning OCA Regional Professional Education to address the prioritized competency gaps and establish the corresponding education curriculum/training required to support Olympus products and services.

  • Support courses on site to ensure all discussions remain on label and teachings are consistent with learning objectives and applicable Policies and Procedures.

  • Support in designing and discovering innovative training approaches and tools to facilitate engagement across learners.

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely submission of OCA Prof Ed educational materials through the MLR process.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in related clinical field such as nursing is preferred.

  • Professional certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Medical Device or Pharma Industry.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience preferred in either surgical or gastrointestinal field, either technical or nursing.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience preferred in a clinical training education role or in a training lab role. The ideal candidate will have a combination of experience working in a clinical environment, experience working in a medical training role, and managing a training lab.

  • Must be flexible to work 1-2 weekends a month.

  • Must be available to travel about 20% of work time. Most travel is within the US, however international travel may be required. Ability to travel via airplane is required. Ability to operate a vehicle is required.

  • Candidate must be comfortable working in a training environment in which human cadavers, live animals, animal tissue and other synthetic tissues are being used in a humane way to support training needs.


  • Clinical expertise in either Surgical or GI medical field, either as a technician or nurse.

  • Experience implementing curriculum and training plans, strategies, best practices, policies and processes.

  • Experience in training needs assessment, strategic training prioritization, resource planning and overall execution of training strategies to support innovative training approaches and use of training tools to facilitate engagement across learners.

  • Successful track record of managing and balancing multiple projects with overlapping timelines in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong consulting, facilitation, and communication skills bridging between scientific and business unit priorities, to manage effective cross-divisional collaboration.
