State of Massachusetts Housekeeping Associate Supervisor in Westfield, Massachusetts

Western Massachusetts Hospital, part of Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking aHousekeeping Associate Supervisorto lead a dedicated team in ensuring the hospital environment remains clean, sanitary, and inviting for patients, visitors, and staff. Your essential role involves overseeing and working alongside your team, providing guidance, and ensuring all housekeeping tasks are carried out to the highest standards in line with hospital policies. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the efficient operation of the department by scheduling and assigning tasks effectively, conducting on-the-job training for new team members, and stepping in to manage the department in the absence of the Department Manager. With your positive leadership approach, you will motivate your team to excel and uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and safety throughout the premises. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing performance, maintaining records, and conducting regular inspections to ensure adherence to quality and safety standards. Days off, Monday-Thurs 2:30pm-11:00pm, Sunday and Monday Holidays 6:30am-3:00pm) /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/ · Provide on-the-job supervision to housekeeping staff and perform general housekeeping duties to ensure that work is performed in accordance with established hospital policies. · Assume responsibility for the Housekeeping Department in the absence of the Department Manager. · Motivate staff through positive leadership and example. · Assist in the provision of on-the-job training and orientation for new employees in all areas of housekeeping according to standard policies and procedures. · Review employee performance, determine the need for disciplinary action and recommend and/or initiates disciplinary action as appropriate. · Tour hospital periodically to observe status of housekeeping and to observe housekeeping staff at work. · Schedule and assign work according to the nature of the job to ensure the efficient operation of the department. · Prepare reports and maintain records; and inspect the premises for cleanliness, adherence to safety standards and the need for cleaning. · Coordinate, implement, and maintain environmental databases/spreadsheets. /_Required Qualifications:_/ · Strong communication, and ability to develop positive working relationships. · Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time, and to lift and carry heavy objects. · Ability to give verbal and written instructions in precise, understandable manner. · Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in institutional housekeeping. /_Preferred Qualifications:_/ · Extensive knowledge of floor stripping and waxing, materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in general housekeeping in a hospital. · Ability to acquire computer skills to generate work schedules and other computer-generated forms and correspondence. /_DPH Mission Statement:_/ The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high-quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth.
