POSITION SUMMARY

Faculty and Residents from the University of Kansas School of Medicine--Wichitas Internal Medicine Department provide patient care primarily through our clinic. We are dedicated to continuous quality improvement while providing high quality, efficient health care to patients. This position supports Physicians, Residents, and other Medical Providers in the Internal Medicine Faculty & Resident Clinic, in the delivery of quality, patient-centered care within scope of practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Primary Functions:

• Responds to calls and messages from patients, triaging and prioritizing requests for clinical advice, care plans, prescription refills, test results, prior authorizations, forms completion, and coordinating care with providers and other nursing team members

{=html} <!-- --> - Refills medications as authorized per protocol and as ordered by the provider(s)and obtains insurance authorizations as needed

{=html} <!-- --> - Enters and coordinates provider orders for medications, lab, imaging, DME, etc., monitors outstanding orders and follows-up to verify if completed and/or obtain results - Performs care-related tasks such as administration of immunizations and injections, phlebotomy, CLIA-waived lab testing, suture/staple removal, EKGs, wound care, x-rays (if certified), and assisting with in-office procedures - Manages INRs per established protocols

{=html} <!-- --> - Administers and records screening tests in development, hearing, and vision as ordered

{=html} <!-- --> - Reviews and prepares charts for upcoming appointments including retrieval of pending test results, consult reports, external documents, and identifying preventive services that are due - Provides and documents chronic care management services and population health management activities as assigned

{=html} <!-- --> - Assists providers during exams and procedures as needed

{=html} <!-- --> - Provides cross coverage on the floor as needed

{=html} <!-- --> - Provides patient education to patients and/or their caregivers - Assists with clean up in the team room at end of day; secures PHI, locks all necessary cabinets; checks refrigerator temperatures; counts narcotics/controlled substances (if applicable) - Participates in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations - Reliable attendance and punctuality - Performing other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Certificates & Licenses:

• Kansas licensed RN or LPN
• IV certification is a plus

Education: Associates degree (two-year college or technical school)

Experience:

• Minimum two (2) years nursing experience required
• EHR experience preferred (we use eClinicalWorks)
• Microsoft Office experience a plus
