BRODART METADATA ASSOCIATE in WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania

Under the direction of the Metadata Supervisor, this position provides support for the systems and processes critical to the integrity of all data sets driving demand for Brodart products and services to include title Research, entry, validation, corrections, updates and data enhancements as required.

Responsible for data entry handling to include:

  • researching, manual title entry or reviewing, updating and validating titles drawn from electronic Onix feeds or from various other sources.
  • contacting publishers to gather missing data, check stock levels and availability statuses.
  • annotation entry.
  • updating of data sets in Oracle to include assigning Dewey and/or LC classification numbers, appropriate subject headings, geographic and cultural designators, Fiction genres, age ranges for juvenile materials, etc., pursuant to established coding guidelines and Library of Congress conventions.
  • maintain the integrity of the data and perform final verification and approval of the records in the Brodart Title Database and Journal Reviews Oracle forms.
  • supports the Collection Development department in assisting with data corrections, updates, edits and issues for all programs as necessary.
  • Give support in other areas such as updates coming in from other sources or departments/groups as well as performing other functions to support the workflow of data (such as tracking, recording, validating, etc.), along with working special projects and being open to cross train in other areas of the department as necessary.
  • Participate in cross-functional problem-solving teams as required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of bibliographic data and demonstrated knowledge of Brodart systems and processes preferred.
  • Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, Word); Internet; Information retrieval and research skills.
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail and maintenance of a high degree of accuracy; ability to learn, ask questions and follow directions.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks efficiently. 
  • Knowledge of bibliographic data, cataloging and coding rules.
  • Normal office environment, close and distant vision, using hands and fingers to handle and feel, talk and hear, sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 10 lbs. infrequently.  Standing and walking, lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • This position is subject to scheduled overtime which may be required based on departmental needs.
