Ashley Machine and Tool Company Lathe Operator in Wyoming, Pennsylvania

Position: Full-Time

Location: On-Site

Hours: Monday-Friday (1st shift: 7:00am-3:00pm) (2nd shift: 3:00pm-11:00pm)

Responsibilities we will trust you with:

  • Ability to set up for multiple jobs on (2) machining centers.
  • Monitoring machine setting for daily use.
  • Conducting routine maintenance, ensuring spare parts and tools are readily available.
  • Communicating with foremen and management to ensure the proper tools are readily available.
  • Training and overseeing other employees on specialty machines.
  • Initiating the fabrication process ensures all drawings, blueprints and schematics are readily available -- with the understanding of adjusting during to process in accordance with tolerancing.
  • Proposing improvements to their processes or machines as needed.
  • Understanding and reporting hazards within their working environment.
  • Work with engineering and inspection personnel to achieve desired outcomes at your machining center.

     Knowledge and expertise that matter for this role:

  • Basic understanding of the decimal system and other number systems.

  • Experience with tooling (i.e. selecting and implementing the correct tools for the job based on your understanding).  
  • Highschool Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Prior lathe operator experience (2 years or more preferred).
  • Prior CNC Lathe/or manual Lathe experience (strongly preferred).
  • Prior programming skills -- understanding of basic applications (i.e. Fusion360).
  • Machinist Degree/Programming Certification (preferred).
  • Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time

What you can expect from a Lathe Operator/Set-up man role:

  • You'll advocate for proper machining procedures and overall production at your machining center.
  • You'll work directly with management to better understand floor necessities and machining needs.
  • You'll collaborate with technicians to ensure the machines and other equipment are functioning properly or troubleshoot with the technicians to find cause and corrective action.
  • You'll play a key role in personal relationships within the shop, advocating for your craft between multiple departments.
  • You'll foster a safe work environment for your team, while sharing feedback and suggestions to management.
  • You'll have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience from operators and foreman alike who have worked on these machines for 10+ years.
  • You'll work closely with engineering to determine the best practices for designated jobs. Suggesting ideas to improve the speed and safety of your job center.
